Time and Effort to Reach a Level in a Language

Factors to Consider:

  1. Initial Skill Level: Your level of proficiency in the language when you start is an important factor. Typically, a beginner will need more time than someone with prior knowledge of the language.

  2. Dedication and Practice: The frequency and regularity of your practice also plays an important role. Establishing a daily or weekly study and practice routine is key to advancing quickly.

  3. Course Intensity: The intensity of your courses (for example, whether they are full-time or part-time courses) will influence how quickly you progress.

Levels

1

Basic level

To reach a basic level (e.g. level A2) in a language from scratch, it is estimated that approximately 200-300 hours of study and practice are needed.

To reach an intermediate level (for example, level B1) from a basic level, another 250-400 hours of study are needed.

3

Advanced level

To reach an advanced level (e.g. C1 level) from an intermediate level, around 500-800 additional hours of study and practice are required.
